The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of travel, teaching solarpunk classes, and soon I’ll be back in NYC, helping to launch Metamorphosis, a new collection of Grist Imagine 2200 hopeful climate fiction stories being published by Milkweed Editions.
And I’ve started working on the “plant novel” again! (I’ve decided October is WYNO—Write Your Novel October—a rejection of NaNoWriMo’s embrace of AI plus a desperate need to actually get my novel moving again).
Check out my tiktok about the 100 year old plant books I found in an even older library while on travel:

I have lots of ideas for more podcasts and guests, but they will have to wait until I return home. Plus keep your eye on the Climate Imaginarium in NYC—they are doing some amazing stuff!
I taught three classes of two different kinds in September—on hopepunk and solarpunk, for both writers and non-writers—and it was truly a magical and generative experience. I feel called to do more of that work, so stay tuned on that.
But in the meantime, I’ll be on a solarpunk panel at NYC’s Center for Fiction on Monday! And they’re livestreaming the event!
Monday Oct 7, 2024, 7pm
The Center for Fiction
15 Lafayette Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11217
Talented performer Eric Lockley will be reading an excerpt from each of our three stories (me, Jamie and Louis) and Tory Stephens from Grist will moderate a panel discussion. We’ll be talking about our stories but also about climate fiction in general and the power of storytelling to help us understand the crisis and find our place of action in fighting it. I’m super looking forward to being in conversation with these talented people!
Register below for in-person or livestreaming tickets!
UPDATE: check out the recording of the livestream below!
Curated by Grist, the leading media organization dedicated to foregrounding stories of climate change, Metamorphosis is a visionary and speculative collection. Immersive, thought-provoking, and often surprising, these stories serve as a springboard for exploring how fiction can help us envision a tomorrow in which we flourish and thrive.
